Jitter Bug

March 26th, 2007

I taught you the jitter bug
and you showed me the fox trot

And by jitter bug I mean:
to kiss without touching lips
love letters with no return address
hugs for every reason and none at all
the perfect martini
and acrylic paints

And by fox trot I mean:
one step forward and
two steps back

one step forward and
two steps back

Doctor’s office

February 13th, 2007

Today I go back in for yet another check up on my eyes. I don’t feel like they have become all that much better from 2 weeks ago. Night vision is not the best, I get ghosting, especially with lights or computer screens, and I’m still photo sensitive. I want to go sun glass shopping because I don’t really care for the ones the doctor gave me, but at the same time I don’t want to go buy nice sunglasses if I won’t be able to wear them. I still have hope that my eyes will continue to get better and it’ll be nice this afternoon to see what the doctor says and see if in fact they have or have not improved.

PRK days 1-10

February 4th, 2007

I’m now ten days out from my PRK surgery. The procedure was completed with no complications, however I am taking longer than expected to heal. It is nothing to be concerned about, but it did cause me to have to take an extra week off of work and it is pretty frustrating because my vision is still very poor. Up until two days ago I really couldn’t see much at all, but the last two days have been encouraging and my vision has improved to 20/40, the legal limit for me to drive. Watch out San Diego, I hit the roads on Monday. The actually recovery was more annoying than anything else. Pain was very minimal except for one night in which I experienced the worst pain of my life, with severe stinging and burning in my eyes. I was not allowed to touch them, so basically I had to just put up with it, luckily it was short lived. Being cooped up in the house was the worst part of the past week and a half and I am looking forward to getting back to work and just having the days go by a little faster while I continue to heal. Thanks to everyone who called, came by to visit, or brought me food and music. :)

PRK

January 15th, 2007

After much thought about it, I’ve decided to get PRK surgery. Photorefractive keratectomy is basically lasik minus the flap that would be cut into the eye. I am a little nervous about getting lasers shot into my eye and from what I hear this is supposed to be very painful recovery . As opposed to the 8 hours needed to heal for lasik, I’ll be out of commission for at least 5 days and won’t be able to see much during that time. So it would be great if everyone suggested some good music I should buy before hand. Or burn me a mix.. :) Hopefully this surgery will reduce my dependency on glasses. To be honest, I don’t mind wearing glasses or the way I look in them, I actually think I look odd with out them, but I really want to be able to see better while doing certain sports, especially swimming. The risks are fairly minimal and I feel confident in the surgeon I’ve picked out. So after years of thinking about it I’m sure these next few days will go slow. Thursday the 25th is the big day… fingers crossed.

Hootenanny

December 10th, 2006

Last night I went to the 94/9 Hootenanny concert. The line up was stacked full so it had promise to be a good show. It was at RIMAC, a giant gym, which made the sound really sucked and I think it took quite a bit away from the show. Nothing like a rock concert sounding like it’s being performed in your shower. BBQ and beer was served outside on the field while a local band opened up. They go by the name Delta Spirit and they were really good. They’ll be playing a show at the Casbah on the 19th. Highlights of the show were some of the new songs by the Shins and seeing Johnny Marr play with Modest mouse. The quick review:

Delta Spirt: Solid band, sounded great.
Silver Sun Pick Ups: Sucked Ok.
Pete Yorn: Pete Yawn
The Shins: Completely rocked the show playing a nice mix of old and new.
Modest Mouse: Tons of Energy, Marr Rocked without trying to steal the show, locked in performance.
